The drive into the hotel is very impressive and the hotel itself lives up to the expectations. Stayed as part of a works "do" and had a wonderful time, the rooms are all lovely (we had 25 of them). The food can only be described as historic. Matfen in in the countryside between Newcastle and Hexham and so the surrounding area has stunning views. I would recommend this hotel as you’re on a winner
