We loved our three night stay here. We stayed in a Japanese style room with private Western bath. The neighborhood that this guesthouse is in is so lovely! There are lots of restaurants, convenience stores, at least one grocery store, a few bakeries, and several artisan shops all nearby. And the Sendago stop on the Chiyoda line of the Tokyo... More

Ryokan Annex Katsutaro is surely one of the best places to stay in Tokyo, it offers so much, its location in the Shitamachi (old Tokyo) area of Yanaka wonderful in itself and we found it close to so much around it. Our eight tatami mat sized Japanese style room was clean and modern as was the bathroom. As an introduction... More

We stayed here 3 years ago and loved it, so when we visited Tokyo again, we booked again without hesitation. This is a ryokan in a hotel building (sleeping on thin mattresses on the floor, tatami mats, no shoes etc). It's a nice way to experience a light version of a ryokan in Tokyo. Annex Katsutaro is amazing value for... More

First time in Japan and had a wonderful stay in the Annex. Here is the feedback. 1. Very comfortable futons (Westerners will be pleased) 2. Very affordable (10,500 yen per night) a bargain in Japan 3. Very clean (Japanese pride themselves on cleanliness) 4. Bathroom is small but the shower head in incredible and the pressure is perfect. 5. Area... More

I found the Katsutaro almost by accident, having arrived into Narita off an overnight flight with no booking for one night and simply picked up a Japanese InnGroup leaflet with it listed (find them on Google as they list others elsewhere in Japan). I simply went there and was able to get a room for that night. I would have... More

I picked this hotel based solely on TripAdvisor reviews, and am so glad I did. The price was VERY reasonable (6300 yen/night) for Tokyo, and the room was a very nice size. The futon was comfortable, room amenities were perfect (you'd be surprised how many hotels in Tokyo don't offer free internet or WiFi- this one does), and, to reiterate... More

This is a modern but still Japanese style accommodation. Sleep on the floor but with the comfort of an en suite. Breakfast is nice, cheaper continental option (toast, tea/coffee, juice) or hot breakfast with eggs. Hotel is immaculately kept. 3 minute walk to Sendagi station on the subway line, 7 minute walk to Nippori on The JR Yamanote line. The... More

This place is fantastic. It is hard to believe it exists in a bustling place like Tokyo! You can walk to the ryokan from Sendagai and Nippori stations - very handy having two different lines to choose from. The street outside is so sleepy and old-style. It is only open to cars for part of the day. Close to all... More

Our family of four stayed here for six nights. It was very convenient to subway and JR yamonte line. Very quiet at night and exceptionally clean. There were plenty of restaurants and shops around so we ate different food every night. It is an easy walk from the NIppori station even with two small children and all our luggage. We... More

We stayed here for 7 days/6 night over Thanksgiving week. We chose this inn in Yanaka because we wanted something different from our last hotel in downtown Tokyo, and we love it! We especially love the wonderful and meandering side streets and quaint neighborhoods, the temples big and small, the cafes, restaurants, gift shops. The subway stop is a straight... More
