From being collected from our hotel to being delivered back to the coast, our time at Bird Safari Camp was quite unique. We travelled 200 miles - by road and then boat up the Gambia river, seeing birds, chimpanzees and monkeys on the lush riverbanks, arriving at the island camp at dusk. We stayed in comfy, spacious tents overlooking the... More

We stayed there for 5 nights it was great fun. The river trip to get there was most enjoyable, the mini bus part less so. Mark and the staff look after you exceptionally well. The food was good. We went on day break bird watching walks, fishing from the jetty and by boat. Trips on the river hippo spotting, we... More

It might be many miles up the river but when you arrive at the camp Mark ensures all those miles of travelling are worthwhile by 'going the extra mile' himself to make stays there very enjoyable. The 'tent' we stayed in was much better than we thought it would be (I don't think the website does it justice). There were... More

My wife and I (and 2 other couples) spent 4 nights at the BSC. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a fantastic time there. The journey up river from the coast was mostly by solar powered boat, the Solar Queen, which comfortably held 9 tourists and a couple of staff and Mark, the owner. We saw plenty of birds,... More

I stayed here for three nights with my 14 year old son. We loved it. There was no pressure upon us to do anything in particular, but plenty to do if you wanted. We swam in the river, walked into George Town, fished, and went in search of hippo's- which was fantastic. We located several, then went up river on... More

Good location right on the banks of the river, 3km from Janjangbureh. Choice of ensuite tents or rooms. The tents were a little unstable but very mossie proof. Beds standard african foam so not that comfy if you're not used to it. Solar heated water available (not that you'd want it in that heat). Restaurant was excellent and staff very... More

Bird Safari Camp has nice large clean tents on the River Gambia with clean and functional on suite bathrooms. The location is superb if you like birds and wildlife, the staff are friendly and generally - but not always- helpful and the food was good. Travelling up river on the Lady Hippo seeing hippos, dolphins, osprey and chimps was the... More

I’ve got mixed feelings about Bird Safari Camp having spent five nights there. It’s in a great setting, and having the choice between a hut and a tent was a nice touch. We chose a tent, partly because it looks out on the river, and partly on the recommendation that it was cooler at night. The tents were comfortable enough,... More

We very much agree with uKNat01's review from Jan. 2011. The coordination of overland and river travel by Hidden Gambia to this exciting destination was perfect and truly amazing given the location and possible variables. Congratulations Mark, we enjoyed every stage of it. We chose to stay in a tent. It catches the breeze from the river and cools down... More

This is not the Ritz but it is not intended to be. For birding or just chilling out away from it all the Camp is perfect, it even has a good sized pool. More
