We had stayed here in the past when it was a very nice old fashioned hotel. Now it is ultra modern without losing any of its charm. We had a superb top floor room. Just three very minor gripes: the television was a bit awkward to use, probably something to do with the batteries in remote and the shower floor... More

Travelling up by train, the hotel is in a great location, just a walk away from Grindleford station. The hotel reception rooms and grounds look great, and the room we had was large and decorated in a modern style. Breakfast in the morning me had overlooking the garden and scenic valley beyond, great way to start the day. The best... More

Arrived home today after staying for one night. Upon arrival, my boyfriend and I were amazed by the beautiful scenery and character of the hotel. We couldn't have wished for it to be in a more perfect place. There was plenty of parking, too. The welcome at reception was very friendly and they gave us all the useful information we... More

Thank you for such a fantastic review! It really helps future guests get a feeling for the hotel before they arrive. Just to clarify that both Continental and cooked Breakfasts are included in the room rate. The prices are for non-residents. I hope you will return soon! More

Stayed here for a night with my husband. The staff were friendly, the t.v. was big, the location was great, the bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean. Breakfast was also quite good. Only fault we found was that we paid cash for dinner and it was still applied to our hotel bill, which caused us a bit... More

A surprise night away for my Birthday and back to a place we used to stay for our anniversary until the kids were around and we ran out of money. Last time we stayed was 18 years ago and we had fond memories so it had a lot to live up to. It has changed and the decor is certainly... More

We stayed here for a weekend of walking and relaxing. Great rooms, friendly service. Unfortunately the bar is stocked with just typical pub spirits, no selection of e.g. single malts. More

Stayed one night here in January 2012. Old characterful house, refurbished in 2008 in a boutique style. Room was large and well- appointed. The bed was actually two singles pushed together covered in a 5ft double mattress. The two beds looked pretty old but the double mattress was comfortable. Large bath, modern effective shower. All clean & tidy with facilities like... More

My husband, myself and our dog spent two nights at The Maynard MLK long weekend in a superior double room (#7). The room was HUGE, the biggest of any UK room we have ever stayed in. The bed was a king, a little too soft for me but my husband thought it was great. Tons of extra pillows. The TV... More

The location and views are great, and the staff were friendly and helpful but everything else (except breakfast) was disappointing. A fantastic old building has been 'updated' by an overzealous interior designer who likes black lampshades and 'feature' battleship grey walls - some bits of it work but others do not (a matter of taste I accept). in fairness our... I am disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay as much as you would of liked. I appreciate your comments about the decor. Just to clarify regarding the Ribeye, it is a full Ribeye steak. Our Chefs were slicing it to display how well cooked you had opted for, and the colour from that (we hoped) helped excite... More
