Chris O's City Tips

  • Cabs are plentiful in popular areas.
  • Most of the main attractions in Miami Beach are within walking distance of each other.
  • The Metromover and Miami Trolley are free transportation options serving some of the most popular parts of town.
  • It's always a good idea to be aware of your belongings and be mindful of characters trying to take advantage of any out-of-towner's naïveté and unfamiliarity with the area.
  • DO expect many more people to speak fluent Spanish than in most parts of American. DON'T assume they're foreigners just because they do!

    Chris O Says:

This Little Havana institution is the world's most famous Cuban restaurant (according to the owners anyway). It's probably the world's largest Cuban restaurant too. Along with the bakery and takeout area, Versailles seats more than 350 people. And since it's popular among local Cuban exiles and tourists alike, the vast majority of these 350-plus seats are filled most of the time too. But it's not just the chance to dine like a local in a historic setting that draws 'em in – the food is excellent. Versailles' Cubano, as you might expect, is a classic.

Set on the beautiful Bay of Biscayne, Vizcaya was the summer home of businessman James Deering during the early 20th century. Today, the estate is open to the public as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a must-see whether you're coming to experience the grandeur of building and its lush grounds, or to enjoy what many reckon is one of the best art and history museums in the United States.
