This list shows some of the places that we took. This trip was just under 5000km in one week. Some people may choose to do it more slowly, or adding in way more attractions in at each stop etc. Those who have more time might want to stay longer in some of these places exploring.
This was our first stop along the road. Beautiful scenery in parts. One of the areas that will be in the 2010 olympics.
This is a town at the end of the Pavillion Road. It is a drive through town, but it allows you to see a lot in the past.
Food was pretty good here, fairly slow service, but if you're willing to wait, it is delicious food. One of the owners of the pub is from Vancouver BC.
This is a fairly developed town. There is not much to do in the later evening here, but there is well built up.
This is a excellent hotel to bring your families to. They make it very child/family friendly.
Hudson Hope is a very small town that is on the way to the WAC Bennett Dam. The WAC Bennett dam is a very large earth dam, and cars can drive on it. A few companies in the Hudson Hope area look for workers, but there is currently no place to rent or live in.
This is Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. It also connects you with Fort St. John. It is also where you can get into Alberta into the Peace River area.
This is a town that is beside the river which is a very windy river. It is also home to the only suspension bridge in Alberta.
This is a really good hotel. It is really clean, and there is a great restaurant Smittys which is located in the promiximity of the hotel.
Slave lake is a drive through city, and one of the dirtiest areas of Alberta. The Visitor center also has dirt instead of an established driveway, but there are opportunities to see wildlife and other types of forest etc.
This is a small little drive through city, and is in the middle of very little places. The good food in this area is the Neighborhood Pub, and also the Golf Club. These two places have good food, and good atmosphere.
This is a good place to stay for a one night stay. There are a lot of renovations that need to be made in order for the appearance to approve greatly, but atleast the place is clean inside.
It is a 4-4.5 hour drive to Fort McMurray from Athabasca, but it is a pretty drive. There is plenty of opportunity to see wildlife along the stretch to Fort McMurray. There are also miles of flat straight highway, that also has miles and miles of burnt trees on the sides along with muskeg.
Also this city is very expensive to live in, as there are workers quite a bit up in this area that are working with the oil sands. But workers are in great demand up here.
We also had lunch at garden cafe which is a great place to eat, and good prices.
The hotel, the merit, looks very established, and is a good place to stay for those people needing a place to stay.
This is a center where you learn about the development of oil sands
This is the capital city of Alberta, and in the city there are lots of attractions to see and do.
This is a hotel that is relatively new and very well done and a comfortable place to stay in. They have a priority club, which allows for guests to transfer air miles into travel points for a free night there.
Red Deer is a good city, it half way between Edmonton and Calgary, and it relatively built up.
There are many attractions in Calgary to see and do. Google Calgary Attractions for more information.
This hotel is a good place for a one or two night stay. It provides comfortable enough rooms, but some are in need of renovations. It is close enough to the downtown core.
It is a very eye attractive park. There are plenty of opportunities to see wildlife along this stretch, so drive with due care and attention.
Banff is a cosy little city located within the BC/Alberta Rockies, and offers many opportunities for leisure activities. It allows you to stroll through the town, hike through the trails, and ski and camp and much much more... This is also an opportunity point to see wildlife.
Kelowna is one of the hearts of the Thompson Oaknagan. There are other cities and towns which are close to Kelowna. They include Vernon, Westbank, Winfield, Lake Country. This also includes many different scenery views as well. Kalamalaka Lake is the only greenish/blue coloured lake. The green color is the crystalization of lime etc. to bring that color.
Princeton is nestled along the Hope/Princeton Highway area. There are some areas around including Tulameen, Summerland/Princeton Highway, Osprey Lake, Chain Lake, Teepee Lakes and much more. It is also for the individual who is interested and into looking into wilderness views.
This is a very nice inn. Very clean and very convenient to the highway that we could take off in the morning. We also went to the Copper Mountain Pub and Grill which is located just a few blocks away. This is very nice and the prices are reasonably priced, except for few options.
This is a beautiful park that allows for many pristine walks, hikes, and camping opportunities. There are many meadows, lakes, trails etc. There are also many opportunities to see wildlife.
