English Cities that Provide the namesake for ones in Massachusetts

As a Massachusetts resident, I'm fully aware of the influence the British had in forming the commonwealth. They don't call the region New England for nothing.

  • 1. Boston
    Boston, Lincolnshire

Unlike its Massachusetts counterpart, this Boston is not a major metropolis, but it should be noted for The Stump, the parish church which has the highest tower in all of England.

  • 2. Brighton
    Brighton

In Massachusetts, Brighton is a college town for Boston College and Boston University students. In England, it is an ocean-side town with a wonderful night life and generally good natured people. Pretty similar I guess.

  • 3. Oxford
    Oxford, Oxfordshire

While the Massachusetts Oxford is a quiet suburb, the English Oxford of course is one of the world's most famous college towns with one of the world's most prestigous universities.

  • 4. Mansfield
    Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

Mansfield, MA is most well known for being home to the Tweeter Center, a renowned outdoor concert venue. English Mansfield lies on the River Maun (Maun's Field, then shortened to Mansfield). It is a very old city, dating back to 70AD. In the middle ages it served as a defense camp to thwart attacks from then hostile nation Yorkshire.

  • 5. Andover
    Andover

Andover, MA is well known for its prestigious prep school, Phillips Academy, where both Bush 41 and 43 attended (yet another example of W riding on his father's coat tails). Andover, England is a small town of 40,000 people that is situated on the River Anton

  • 6. Weston
    Weston, Devon

Weston, England is most notable for the M4 Motorway that runs nearby. Weston, MA is most notable for big, overpriced houses.

  • 7. Dover
    Dover, Kent

Dover, MA is known for having expansive plots of land and farms. Dover, England is a major port city.
