Silver Celebration in the Rain!

1 Jun 2006  Celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary...which now is going on 27 and we have been together 30 years! Married at 19 and have traveled to Florida the last 17 years with our children. We have stayed at many places on the gulf coast and consider the area our second home! It is Sanibel Island this year!

A 25th wedding anniversary celebration is full of rain, but the silver did not tarnish! We visited Pensacola Beach, FL for three glorious days. We had a cloud follow our jeep for the entire 14 hour drive. Actually, it was more like a tornado warning. At every gas station we checked what county we were in and what type of weather warning we were under....what a way to enjoy a new sunroof! We took our snacks, packed light and headed out.
We arrived at 1a.m. and unfortunately, the private owner rented condo was not empty! We had no place to go...everything was full on the beach. Finally, the Hilton Garden Inn had a cancellation on a "honeymoon suite" and we were set. We were given a slight discount due to our situation and theirs as well. They were wonderful at the front desk and felt for us in our situation. The room was incredible and the view even more so! We then spent the one and only sunny day at the beach.
We visted the boardwalk and ate at the lovely Hemingways Grill on the boardwalk. It was a wonderful place to dine for our anniversary. Right on the beach, the breeze cooled us as we ate the wonderful cuisine. I then found a kiosk that fitted ladies with "eternal toe rings", which were to never come off! After a couple of days getting used to them they were great. A super investment! Although when needed they can be removed...advice from a doctor during a recent surgery! But no worry...hot, soapy water put it right back on to stay!
Then the cloud that was still over our jeep cracked open and never stopped! We finally got into our condo and waited for the rain to stop...it never did.
We played board games, walked in the rain, danced to the radio, ate what little we bought from the grocery and had a wonderful time. We got in the jeep and "jeeped" down the wonderful scenic preserve...in the rain. The ocean takes on a completely different life in a storm.
We were reinbursed a bit for the loss of night in the condo....spent well under $700 for our Silver Celebration! However, on our 30th we are praying for sunshine!
