Places we visited on and off the beaten track in the Algarve

  • 1. Silves
    Silves, Algarve

    Very nice town, visited on a Sunday, so many places closed!
    Castelo de Silves worth a visit.

  • 2. Portimao
    Portimao, Algarve

    Awful place to visit.
    I will never ever stay here.
    Full of burnt, rude English people, English/Irish bars, and lots of places to watch the football(?!!)
    Beach looks amazing, but sadly we didn't want to stop for more than half hour.

  • 3. Monchique
    Monchique, Algarve

    We didn't actually stop in town, as we had a tourist office leaflet of the area saying that Foia (8k out), is the highest point in the Algavre, and so we continued up there instead! Definitely worth a visit, very chilly, but the view is worth it, both at the top, and on the way!!

  • 4. Mount Foia
    Mount Foia, Algarve, Portugal

    Worth a visit, even if it's just so you can say you've been to the highest point in the Algarve!!

  • 5. Pera
    Pera, Algarve

    An intersting evening out here. We visited the Animalandia 2011 sand sculpture exhibition. For €8 it was definitely worth a visit, but only around once a year, so good timing for our visit!!

  • 6. Faro
    Faro, Algarve

    A lovely little town, we managed to stay away from the really built up areas and visited the local cathedral, and generally just wandered around. Very sweet and worth a visit.
