A weekend of the great outdoors by the southern hemispheres largest lake
OK if you REALLY want to break the bank this is the place for you! Five star luxury set beside the beautiful fast flowing Waikato river. There's no TV, no Phones, just you, your partner and a whole lot of nature!
No weekend in Taupo is complete without gaping, slackjawed at the awesome Huka falls. 220 000 litres of water cascade down the falls every second!! If you are into your nature walks there is a vast collection of easy to moderately long walks in the immediate vicinity
If you would like to see the aformentioned falls at breakneck speed then give huka jet a try. Speed up the river in a sleek, shark-like jet boat and marvel at the Huka falls from water level!
for half-crazed adrenaline junkies give leaping off a platform into deep gorge with only the Waikato river and a bungy rope to break your fall a go. Apparently Taupo bungy specialise in the water touch!!
keeping with the adrenaline junky theme, Taupo Tandem skydiving offer you the chance to freefall over one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, and with vista's to the tongariro national park this is an experience you will never forget
After a day of jet boating, nature walking, bungy jumping and skydiving you are seriously going to need to unwind. Try sitting in a pool fed by geothermally heated mineral water, nothing, seriously NOTHING eases away the muscle aches like that, and if you have kids there are hydroslides and water playgrounds for them to use up any excess energy! They also offer extensive spa treatments.
Excellent food and wine in a cafe setting!
Voted best regional restaurant 2006 in the cuisine restaurant awards, this place is a real special treat. Dine with amazing views of the lake all the way to the mountains!
If you have the time, drive around the lake and take in the tongariro national park. This area encompasses three mountains all of which have extensive hiking trails in summer and there is skiing on Ruapehu in the winter.
