What travellers are saying
- randstyrAshburn, VA130 contributionsDefinitely worth the visit! Beautiful grounds -- both in natural and well-manicured states. The trail that winds through the property is very well-marked and easy to navigate. Great for nature-lovers -- and also nice to have a little change of pace by visiting the mansion on the property, which you pass by while on the trail. Great views of Puget Sound at this point too.
***Helpful hint: We didn't realize that reservations are required (they can be done online ahead of time). The staff at the entrance were very helpful and advised us to reserve a spot and pay online with our phones at the gate. Since it was a non-crowded weekday, we were easily able to do this, and entered the grounds after only a 15 minute wait. Otherwise, I'd suggest reserving online ahead of time.Written 17 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My first stop, after walking up from the ferry, was this place. It's perfectly located to catch your attention, then having free/donation entry meant that frugal me had to pop in and have a look.
I'm glad I did. It's an eclectic mix in a beautiful building and the gift shop is worth a browse.Written 26 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Though not originally from the immediate area, she has done her homework to learn about, disseminate to, and advocate for the the mission of the memorial. She has gathered a lot of oral history.
Through her superb interpretation, we were moved about this dark page of the days following Pearl Harbor and the hysteria along the West Coast as the Japanese Americans were rounded up and evacuated to remote, uninhabited areas -- and on very short notice.
Fortunately, these Bainbridge residents wanted in large part to return and start over, or in some cases, continue their lives through the kindness of other residents who cared for their property and paid their property taxes. They were luckier than most.
We certainly felt the time spent here was worthwhile.Written 9 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LakeslandLondon, UK12 contributionsWe stayed in a cabin on the park for a couple of nights. Cabin is simple - information provided is clear that there are beds, a table and chairs, and electricity. No bed linen, towels provided and no bathroom in the cabin.
The shared toilets were nearby and kept clean. The two showers on site were down near the beach in the main bathroom block.
Lovely views, peaceful location. Great views of Seattle and Mount Rainier.Written 21 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I am not quite sure why, but the main courses took quite a bit of time to come to our table; other than that, everything was perfect.Written 17 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jason HennigRenton, WA354 contributionsWhat a fantastic park! Good hikes, and the abandoned battery is fascinating to look through! The trails are well-maintained and in excellent condition. Other than one steep hill, these are excellent hikes for beginners.Written 20 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jason HennigRenton, WA354 contributionsA short hike, but a fantastic one! The trails are well marked and well maintained, and the forest itself is a beautiful walk. It's generally not too strenuous, but there are a couple of hills that may leave you out of breath if you have difficulty with hills. Multiple parking lots, but they are small, so be careful.Written 12 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jason HennigRenton, WA354 contributionsThis small, relaxing garden is a calm place to cool off or enjoy nature. The only problem is that when we arrived, it was very, very crowded. That may not be ordinary, but I can only say that enough crowding very much gets in the way of some of the enjoyment.Written 1 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rick LPort Orchard, WA250 contributionsThis a is great place to enjoy really tasty wines, foods and excellent customer service in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere. We joined another couple for a wine flight and a charcuterie and cheese tray. I chose the red wine flight and my wife chose the fruit wines. We're both red wine lovers but we're open to new, sweeter flavors if done right.
We sat in their outside patio in the back at a table with a large umbrella over it. We could've picked a better table since we were near the exhaust fan to an air conditioner, and my wife and one of our friends wound up sitting partly in the sun as it moved to where the umbrella couldn't block it. For me, the wafting hot air from the exhaust fan was offset my a gentle breeze blowing over me as I sat in complete shade the whole time. We could've moved to a number of open tables but it was our choice to sit and remain there
The red wine flight had four wines. My favorite turned out to be the 1st wine of the flight--Barking Dog Red. It's made from Columbia Valley, WA grapes: 40% Sangiovese, 40% Merlot 20% Syrah. It was a really good quaff and we bought a couple of bottles since my wife also thought it was the best-tasting red of the flight. The other three reds were very nice but this wine was clearly great for drinking on its own or with food.
The four fruit wines flight was surprising to me, being among the best I've ever tasted--and I'm not a fan of most fruit wines. The standouts that we purchased were the Tropical Breeze fruit blend, the Blood Orange and the Blackberry/Raspberry. For me, the Tropical Breeze blend-- peach, mango and pineapple-was wonderful in its gentle complexity that delivered a wonderful tropical nose and flavors. My other favorite was the Blood Orange--in your face nose and flavors that set it apart from any other fruit wine I've drank. I totally loved it. The Black/Raspberry was very good--my wife liked it better than I did--but I'll still drink it!
The charcuterie/cheese platter also had almonds prepared a couple of different ways, chocolate cookies and candies. It was a combo of two or three of their separate platters and was very enjoyable.
We've been to their tasting room on Winslow Way but this was a much more enjoyable experience. We will be back. I especially want to make a return visit because a couple of spots down from the winery there's a pop up kitchen space. On the day we were there, two young men had a pro BBQ rig going and to me it smelled like they were smoking beef brisket. I gotta give that a try the next time if they're cooking it up. But this tasting room stands on its own as a great place to spend some time, drink and eat, and enjoy live music in the evenings.Written 16 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The interaction with the woman who was running the front, was great. So personable, and caring. The bourbon, whiskey, gin, and the high end japanese whiskey were interesting, just not what I like. The 1/4 ounce pours were actually great tasting sizes.Written 16 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SaraMae50Oakhurst, CA140 contributionsSmall, rustic winery just a short drive from the ferry. Very pleasant to sit outside and taste a variety of small-batch wines. Out of the five we tasted, one was very good, two were virtually undrinkable, and the other two were pretty good. Cheese, crackers, salami, nuts, etc. for sale at reasonable prices to accompany your wine. Well worth a visit.Written 11 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
