Visitors will enjoy a self-guided driving tour through the land where the former president was born and buried, plus his 717-acre ranch, you won't have to walk your feet off to see this state park. The park is home to the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm. The farm is a working farm that lets visitors step back in time and experience life on a German farmstead in the early 1900's. Throughout the park, visitors will find evidence from three cultures: Native American, Spanish and German. The Native Americans lived in the Hill Country, then the Spanish conquistadors, and in the early 1800s German immigrants settled there. Park visitors will also be able to picnic, fish, swim, and see Texas longhorn cattle. And note that there are two visitors centers, about 14 miles apart. The first is the National Park Visitor Center, run by the park service, and another operated by LBJ State Park and Historic Site near the ranch.
