Our goal is to make your visit an exciting adventure with opportunities to learn about interesting wildlife, engage in interactive fun, and support worldwide conservation and research to protect and preserve endangered species. Our new Giants of the Savanna has been a giant success! The multi-species habitat has animals mixing it up between the elephant and giraffe savannas so the guest experience is different every day. Zookeepers have been introducing the elephants to the north side of the habitat and ostriches, impalas, and a zebra have been visiting the south side. The results are interesting animal interactions and an experience that is unique each time you visit. BIG ANIMALS!ELEPHANTS HAVE A BIG TIME IN THE SAVANNA The herd of six female elephants has adapted to the savanna habitat very well. They are an active group of older, non-reproductive elephants, which has led some at the Zoo to refer to the ladies as the Golden Girls. Enjoy big adventure at Predator Rock. Worthy of the king of beasts and the fastest land mammals, the new habitat offers two grassy habitats, as well as an encounter area where zookeepers can showcase the natural behaviors of lions and cheetahs. Get face to face with the big cats who call the Giants of the Savanna their home! A CASTLE FIT FOR THE KING OF BEASTS Big cat fans are roaring with praise as lions return to the Dallas Zoo. The lions came from two zoos to live as a pride in Dallas. Our boys, Kamaia and Dinari, are brothers. They live with Lina, Jasiri, and Johari, who are sisters. RUN CHEETAH RUN! Next door to the king of beasts you will find the world's fastest land mammals. Mother, Kisutu, can be found with her son, Bonde, and daughter, Kilima. Stop by the Simmons Safari Base Camp & Observation Deck for a little wild fun! Giants of the Savanna guests can play the Dallas Zoo’s own touch-screen elephant video game, speak with one of our interpreters to learn more about the savanna, and watch the elephant tracker to learn how these giants spend their day. From the beautiful deck, take in the best view in the habitat and overlook the entire Elephant Savanna. At the Dallas Zoo...there's always more to explore!GIRAFFES EAT UP ATTENTION Tall and proud, the giraffes at Giants of the Savanna are not above looking for a “handout” – especially when it contains a fresh green leaf of romaine lettuce or a rye cracker. The new giraffe exhibit in the savanna offers a fun animal encounter at the Dallas Zoo as guests can choose to feed the animals when they gaze eye-to-eye with the tallest land mammals. « less
