The earth was found at McLaren Vale, one of South Australia's premier wine regions on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The sunshine was free.Jim and Helen Watts purchased the 32 hectare Vineyard property in 1984 and were advised against planting vines in the heavy clay soil. Undeterred by the sceptics they planted and nurtured fine quality cuttings. Their labours bore quality fruit which they lovingly converted into supreme quality wines. Success followed and blends and single varietal wines are produced from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourverdre, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho vines.Their Reserve Shiraz received an Excellent Classification in Langton’s 4th Classification of Australian Wine. The nineteenth century stone Cellar Door Cottage is surrounded by beautiful tranquil grounds where visitors often picnic. The Cellar Door is open for tastings daily, 10am and 5pm. « less
