  "The Pena de Bernal is apparently the thrid larges monolith in the world (per tourist brochure). It is about 30-45 min by car from Santiago de Queretaro. If you go on a hot day, take a lot of fluids with you as it can get really hot especially if you decide to climb it (or even a part of it.) I went ..."half way on a cloudy day and it was a really good and tireing workout. The highlight for me was the little town of Bernal at the foot of the rock where I had the delicious gorditas served at Dona Coco place. I recommend the gorditas or sopes made with the blue corn tortillas. They have a different taste to the regular corn, at least for me. The town was a set for several Mexican movies and still is used for such purposes as it is very picturesque. THey also have some nice shops with souvenirs... but take cash with you as credit cards are not accepted everywhere. " More >
