I have been fortunate enough to travel widely and have rarely come across anything as breathtaking. The scenery is magnificent, the accommodation first rate and the guides, Billy and Sean, ar..."e very knowledgeable. Sean has written a very informative book on the trail and we were given a copy. It was fascinating to hear his explanation of the wonders of nature. We each planted a tree. I dedicated mine my my late dad and my nephew did so for his mum. This is part of Sean's commitment to re-establish and conserve the natural habitat. Some of the highlights were showering under a waterfall in a beautiful glen, having a home made picnic in the forest, which Sean's wife Michelle had prepared, and meeting some terrific people.   "This was our second visit to South Africa and one of only 2 courses that we insisted on playing again. The links at St Francis is one of my favourite courses and as a solid 5 marker, have played it off both the plates and the forward tees and found both enjoyable, challenging and rewarding. When..." the wind is blowing, you may well need a few balls, but on still sunny days, playing to your handicap is not as hard as you may think from this true links golf course. Some of the holes are a bit mickey mouse i.e. the par 3 17th. Even at 179 metres from the blue tees, an eight iron pushed right will probably see your ball meander through the rough, past the bunker and down the long sloping green to the bottom pin position for an easy birdie. That being said, the over all experience at St Francis Links is so good, we have now played here more than any other course in South Africa and I would play it more, but the trip from Australia is a killer.
