Welcome to ISLA TORTUGA, one of the most amazing natural paradises in Costa Rica! Here you will have the chance to enjoy your contact with nature in a healthy, fun way.We offer the best entertainment for kids and adults. Our water and land activities will let you take advantage of the entire Island.Isla Tortuga has been a recipient of the Ecologic Blue flag for the past fifteen years. The Blue Flag guarantees clean oceans and beaches as well as the appropriate management of resource for all of our visitors.About the IslandIsla Tortuga is located on the southeast corner of the Gulf of Nicoya, across from Punta Curu.It is 120 hectares and its highest point is at 172 meters over sea level. This Island is property of the State, and was leased to a Costa Rican family, headed by Mario Cubero Fernandez.Mister Cubero, a great ‘visionary’ for his time, was conscious of the merciless consequences deforestation and hunting were causing in Costa Rica. Faced with a state without any resources available to protect this natural heritage, he used his own resources to embark upon the noblest journey of his life: to make Tortuga a wild flora and fauna refuge.During the next thirty years, he protected, reforested and reintroduced species that had almost disappeared from the Island; nature responded.Meanwhile, the owners of cruise companies visiting the Island have taken advantage of this work by bringing foreign and local tourists to the public zone of a worldly renowned destination. In the end, Costa Rica came out ahead by boosting its image as a responsible country always concerned for its nature.
