"The way to the top is actually the most brilliant part to me, you can enjoy an overall view from the mountain down to the whole city and a part of the shore. Its such a peaceful place to relax and enjoy exploring the scene from a ideal height. The view from the top is as well awesome."
"Hon Ba Island is one of the least known and utilized attractions of Vung Tau. Situated just past the point between Back and Front beach (on the back beach side) it is the Asian equivalent of the French Island of Mont St Michel. It has two similarities to its French counterpart - it can only be rea..."ched at low tide and it is a place of pilgrimage. Also called the Lady Island it has female Buddhas and is said to bring good luck to all who visit. I got a great job the week after my adventure.
Its an exciting crossing because except on the rarest of extreme low tides the crossing involves walking through water and across quite treacherously slippery and sharp rocks. Good solid tennis shoes are advised. You are also advised to be ready to cross 2 hours prior to the low tide and must return before the tide turns because when it turns waves come at you from two different directions - from the back beach and the front beach which can make it quite difficult to keep your balance.

"Having ridden up to the lighthouse lookout several times, but I really wanted to see the Jesus Statue.
So we circled the mountain on the beach road (Thuy Van Road) and from the main beach area we turned left into Phan Chu Trinh St. which is heading back into Vung Tau township and on the way did a h..."ard left up a laneway between some buildings and rode a very rough trail around the front of the mountain till we arrived at the steps leading to the statue. Even though it saved us a long walk I would not recommend this route as it was very rough and at stages a sheer drop off the side of a cliff with only a narrow trail to ride your motorbike on. Be also aware that the track from the lighthouse to the Jesus Statue goes through a forbidden Military area. We found this out when the guards pointed machine guns at us. But that was on another trail up the mountain so certainly dont recommend that one.
