At 509 meters high, this was the world's tallest building from 2004 to 2010, when the Burj Khalifa in Dubai surpassed it. The tower is reminiscent of a pagoda or a stalk of bamboo and designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes common in Taiwan. Floors one through five are a shopping center and both the indoor (89th floor) and outdoor (91st floor) observation decks offer a 360-degree panoramic view.

Its length is about two hundred meters, and its architecture dates back to the early days when the Republic of China was newly established. Architecture buffs will enjoy this display of Japanese colonial architecture. Peruse historic relics and stores selling art and ceramics. Be sure to visit Zushi Temple, considered to be one of the most beautifully sculpted in Taiwan.

"We had been warned to get there early, and arrived at 9.15. It was already too late. The groups of visitors were swarming all over, led by miked-up guides waving little flags. Some rooms were impossible to enter and see the show cabinets, and the queues snaked down the stairs. I say queue, but there..." is was etiquette, and we were pushed and shoved and stepped on without so much as an apology. What a pity, as we could not see everything we wanted to, and a great contrast to the normal courtesy wee have encountered here in Taiwan.

"Tip 1: Do you like eating? Do you like asian food? Do you like all sorts of authentic taiwanese food? If you answered yes, then this is a perfect place for you to visit. Taiwan is all about eating and without a doubt, this is a place filled with food.
Tip 2: How to get there? The best and fastest..." way is to catch a metro to the end of the Orange line. It only cost about less than £1 to get there.
Tip 3: Please also take note that this town also sells weird intestine food therefore if you are not a big fan, please do not consume. We even saw someone selling these cute little snail crabs, we are not sure if they are hermit snails or hermit crabs but it was very interesting. See picture.
Tip 4: To find a toilet is quite difficult, i suggest you go for a toilet break first when you arrived at the metro station. Free of charge!
Tip 5: Bring cash with you because you will realised none of the shops accept card. Moreover, most of the shops are street shops.
Tip 6: Start your tri...

"Something to do in Taipei. Nice upscale shopping mall with interesting architecture in great hall. Then take $500NT($20) ride to top of 101 Tower. I've been up there three times with different people and never have gotten outside on 91st floor, but people who go up the first time seem to like it...". Make sure you check out the pendulum. Views are great if haze and clouds don't interfere.
