This market si the true heart of Warsaw's Old Town, and until the end of the 18th century it was the heart of the city. Representatives of guilds and merchants met in the Town Hall here (demolished in 1817), fairs and occasional executions were held. The four sides of this vast square are named after the most famous 18th century Polish parlamentarians. Destroyed during World War II, the square was rebuilt to look as it did when rich merchant families lived here in the 17th century. With its little cafes and street performers, it's an interesting place to admire the architecture and to taste local beer and food.

"My father and I had the pleasure of travelling to Warsaw in early May 2013. We had a clear idea of what we were planning on doing, and had booked through a travel agent in advance with our requested itinerary. We were advised that we'd be shown around by Hubert Pawlik for the three days.
To put i..."t simply, Hubert was fantastic. The love that he clearly has for his city is infectious, and his knowledge of every corner of it is second to none. Walking around Warsaw's old town (Stare Miasto) with Hubert is an enriching experience, as he has the ability to not only show you the places, but to explain their history in minute detail. Warsaw is a city that cannot escape its past, and Hubert's explanations are both informative and sensitive to that (often horrendous) history.
We also did two day trips with Hubert to the Treblinka and Majdanek concentration camps in Treblinka and Lublin respectively. These are two very different examples of such camps (one a monument, the other a museum) a...

"There are many ways to explore a city but we highly recommend going on a tour with Marcin. He is so knowledgable and passionate about his city and country. We went on the extended day-time tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. We learned so much about Warszawa and Poland and was inspired by Marcin to cont..."inue learning about the country’s history. He beautifully complimented his tour with historical photos which gave you a real understanding of the devastation of the city and even took us on a tour of polish music through the ages. He paid for everything: soup, donut, beer/vodka and even had some water for us if we needed it.
Another highlight was driving in his Polski Fiat 1982. A very historically important car which provided much enjoyment for the locals. It was very common to see a father explain to his children the importance of this Fiat. In Marcin’s car you felt special and not just like another tourist. Warsaw is also very large and you would spend all of your day walking around jus...
