The newly established Elephant Conservation Center is now open, marking a new era for conservation of the Asian elephant within the Lao PDR and offering a unique experience to visitors wishing to contribute towards the preservation of an endangered species. The first of its kind in Laos, the Center, launched in association with conservation organisation ElefantAsia, is not another elephant camp but an innovative approach that combines conservation of an endangered species with eco-tourism.PACKAGES:* 1 DAY VISIT From/to SayabouryCome and enjoy a day of excitement at the Center. Departing early morning from your guesthouse in Sayaboury, your day visit will begin with a visit of the center. You are going to see the only hospital dedicated to elephants in Laos. A vet will explain you his job and will show you the place. Then, you will have the opportunity to see, observe and learn about the mysterious pachyderm at the museum and at the mahout school. It will be the moment to learn how to ride bareback, the traditional way behind the ears with the help of the mahouts and the guide.After lunch at the Center’s restaurant, you will go for a walk with the guide and mahouts through the forest to visit the elephant nursery. It is located deep inside the forest where the baby elephants are learning how to sustain themselves closely watched by their mum. The return to the center will be arranged by boat.You are goint to watch th elephant bathing. Elephants are surprisingly good swimmers and love water. The price per person is 60.000Kip one way. It takes approximately 4 hours to reach Sayaboury city.-FROM VIENTIANE: There are 3 buses per day from Vientiane respectively at 9:00am, 4:00pm and 6:30pm. The price per person is about 110 000kip one way.
