Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland. Close enough to visit, far enough to stay. On Saturday the vibrant farmers market is a focal point for the community and its growers to meet. Produce fills the stalls - fruit and vegetables, delicious home-baking and Italian-style sausages, divine organic chocolate, fine wines and boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer, cafes and live music. Matakana is a unique mix. Rainbow Valley Farm is a world-famous model for permaculture. You'll find a riverside gallery next to the new cinemas, the best in contemporary literature just over the road from teahouse or cafe.

"Shops, bars, resturants, and closer to the ferry building.. clubs!! I never knew nightlife in Auckland could be so happening!! Try and spend a Fri or Sat night here!"
"We decided to get married in Devonport after being recommended a quiet beach overlooking Rangetoto island. And it did not disappoint.
The town itself is a fantastic little place with plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. The town is relatively new, from the 60s, settled after the Auckland..." bridge was completed. Big, old and colonial houses are scattered around the area. It is obvious this place is from old money as the streets are very clean and the area is filled with galleries.
A must visit if based in Auckland.

"My husband and I did the SkyWalk on our honeymoon in Auckland, and really enjoyed it. Let's get this out of the way first - it is expensive, so if you're looking to travel on the cheap, this is not an attraction for you.
We booked in the morning to do the walk in the afternoon. We really enjoyed th..."e sights across Auckland from the platform, and even thought we (I) were terrified, we felt safe the whole time and our instructor, Ethan, took care of us, didn't push us (me) to do anything I didn't want to do, and was really good humoured and knowledgable about the city.
The only reason this gets a four rather than a five is because you only walk round it once - I was just getting confident when we had to go in! A couple of times round the loop would be great. But this is a lot of fun and really challenging if you're a teensy bit frightened of heights - the guide will get you doing some tricks.
The photos at the end were a bit pricey. But all in all, this is worthwhile, even if it's ju...
