The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

"Right next door to the ‘leaning tower’ but what a contrast. The cathedral is peaceful despite the number of tourists and the decoration awe-inspiring. We sat down, gazed towards the roof and wondered at the great ability of those who created it. Information boards are placed throughout the cathedral..." written in both Italian and English.
Collect a free ticket for entry at the same ticket office as for the tower etc. Don’t pass this one by without a visit.

"We were lucky enough to visit this building when one of the employees demonstrated very tunefully the amazing acoustics of the building. One tuneful call set up a reverberation of echoes which sounded like a complete oratorio. Also there is a marble pulpit carved by Pisano and the font that Galileo ..."was baptised in. It is worth climbing the 71 stairs to the gallery for photo opportunities.

"This museum contains a collection of important artefacts pertaining to the history of Pisa. There are signs in English and a series of arrows give a good indication of where to go. There is a lift for physically handicapped."
