A barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic, starting on August 13, 1961, that separated West Berlin from East Berlin. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls. The Wall was mostly demolished between June and November 1990 but a restored stretch remains along the southern border of Wedding and Mitte.
