"Very much enjoyed the tour. Berchtesgaden is a beautiful village in the Bavarian mountains and very scenic.
We travelled on the 840 bus from stand G at Salzburg bus station which cost €22 for 2 adults return. The journey is about 35-45 minutes through the mountains on an excellent road and reall..."y enjoyable in itself. The bus is every 15 mins past the hour leaving and return.
The tour starts at the tourist information centre opposite the train station in Berchtesgaden which is very easy to find. "Our hotel recommended this, and was conducted by panoramic tours. 53€ each and worth every cent!! The drive up to the parking area was an experience in itself...
Best views from the top I have ever seen, and I would probably class this experience as the highlight of our euro trip so far
Do it..."

We took the bus from the centre of Salzburg to Berchtesgarden, where there is a special stop for the salt mine, so transport wa..."s no problem at all. Once there, we had a quick look around the shop and bought our tickets for the tour. Starting with a short ride into the mine by train, there is a guided tour on foot. There were two slides down into the depths of the mine (optional - you can take the stairs, but the slides are great fun) and also a lovely barge ride across the illuminated mirror lake, which is a real treat. There's a lift to get you back up to ground level followed by another short train ride out. All in all, every part of the tour was great fun and I wouldn't have missed it for anything. You have to wear protective overalls inside the mine and as a larger lady, I was worried there wouldn't be any...
