Historically Painswick Rococo Garden is very important, as it is the sole complete survivor from the brief Rococo period (1720 – 1760). These gardens differ from the more traditional 19th and 20th century designs, as they were mini landscapes designed almost as theatrical sets for the home owner to entertain his guests with lavish garden parties. One thing they were not were great flower gardens. At Painswick, romantic follies combine with long vistas, informal plantings, and a large kitchen garden to create a relaxing environment for todays visitor to appreciate how our forefathers lived and to understand how gardens have changed over the centuries.

"We arrived late in the afternoon & enjoyed the light. The gardens are beautifully set out & have various features including follies, a maze, pools, pretty flowers especially tulips, and a kitchen garden & nature walk. Well worth it."
"This is one of the loveliest churches and well -maintained churchyards I have ever visited. The church is beautifully kept and very welcoming, and gives the impression that it is well loved by the community. There are candles to light - I lit two for my son and his fiancee who were getting married el..."sewhere an hour or so later that morning. There are very interesting gravestones in the yard and plaques in the church, and of course the famous yew trees are wonderful. A real feature in a lovely village.

"Loved the 250th birthday maze and the lovely paths through the trees .The cafe was excellent, with a Victoria sponge Mary Berry would have been proud of!"
