Garibaldi Provincial Park is a favorite destination of outdoor enthusiasts: it offers a range of hiking opportunities from lush alpine meadows, wildlife viewing opportunities, alpine flowers blooming in lush meadows, and hikes ranging from a few hours to a few days using map and compass. Garibaldi Park has an interesting geological background as it was created by volcanic action which created the formation of many of the parks peaks; the Black Tusk, Price Mountain, The Table, Mount Garibaldi, the CinderCone and the Glacier Pikes just to name a few. Lava from Clinker Peak is responsible for the creation of The Barrier. Behind this natural dam 300 metre deep Garibaldi Lake was formed.

Hello, thanks for checking out Trip Advisor's 'River of Golden Dreams'.First off the River of Golden Dreams is a public waterway. People have been paddling it for over 100 years. They come back year after year as it's different every time they do it.The River of Golden Dreams is a soft adventure appropriate for all ages, whether you are 6 or 60, including teenagers and young adults. It is a flat water river with no white water and no rapids. The fun and also the challange is keeping your boat in the narrow twisty turny waterway. You never know what's around the next corner, be it flower lined river banks, bears, beaver, fresh water otter, eagles, osprey or a mulitude of birds backdropped by magestic glacier capped mountains.Water levels can rise and fall a meter (3 feet) within 24 hours. By late summer water levels are lower making it easier young families to go unguided. Guides are recommended when water levels are high. It's 2 to 10 meters wide (6 to 30 feet,)and the corners are more than 90 degrees around. The river is .5 meter to 2 meters deep (1 to 6 feet).First timers or people with little paddling experience often hire guides. More experienced paddlers go unguided in canoes or kayaks. The local kids use anything that floats including cheap vinyl blow up toys that almost always get punctured on the riverside branches....and in the early summer the water is cold. It's very different than paddling on a lake, as you've got to pay attention because you never know what's around the next corner, even though it's not physically demanding. Your boat goes with the flow of the river and you steer your boat around the corners. Commercial operators offer river orientation briefings before you depart and guides are well versed in teaching paddling skills and pointing out interesting Whistler facts. They also have shuttles which pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. A quality commercial operator will provide all the equipment and safety gear you need. The River of Golden Dreams is definetly a 'must do' activity while here in Whistler. Have a fun summer.
