Visiting Tatev monastery was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Armenia. I highly recommend taking the scenic cable car that whisks you up there in about 10 min. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable.

I took a weekend tour to visit Tatev Monastery as it is quite far from Yerevan. The roads in Armenia are not great, but the gravel road leading to Tatev was the worst by far. I'd seen pictures of Tatev Monastery in both of my guidebooks, so I was determined to stop by and see it for myself while backpacking around Armenia. It's pretty hard to get to, which I think discourages many tourists to Armenia. But if you have the time, this really should be a must-see for any trip to Armenia.
