Have just visited the museum today and to be honest it was quite disapointing. The cost for non residents is 350 rupees but residents and members is 150 rupees !! The museum has a fair few exhibits but you have to stand and read small notices every few feet which at the beginning is okay but becomes quite tiresome quite... More

This is more of a museum with exhibits and history amongst the factory equipment. At the end there is the opportunity to take different sugars which was really nice and some rum. There was no air con and the visit was very hot and humid.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the sugar museum. Exhibits were informative and detailed the history of sugar alongside the history of the island republic. Beautiful grounds too.

The museum is worth a visit, my hubby enjoyed it more than me (only because I get a little bored with these types of things) but despite that it was enjoyable. Sugar refining is pretty cool to learn about and the best bit? Getting to taste 15 different sugars at the end and 8 different rums. I ended up buying... More

This for us was one of the highlights during our visit to Mauritius. We visited straight after our rather disappointing visit to the Botanical Gardens and this really blew us away. The UK has some of the best museums in the world but this museum of sugar manufacturing is probably one of the best that I have ever visited. The... More

Lots of interesting facts, well presented with model and pictures, and the original machinery from a working sugar mill. We learnt a lot, but it’s impossible to read everything in a single visit, so be selective. The history of Mauritius is well covered and we learnt a lot that wasn’t explained on the Internet. We’re interested in old machinery, so... More

GOOD: · It’s a nice museum in an old mill with the old mill(not working). Everything in english/french. No guide necessary. If you read only the important things, then the tour takes 1-2 hours. · The fee is 350,- pp. 9am – 5pm. BAD: · nothing

As a Mauritian, I already know the history of Mauritius. But this place is so nicely done and the whole surrounding is simply lovely, that it definitely makes you want to visit it. My visit was a very good experience. It;s very informative, about us Mauritians and the old Mauritian economy. It also brings back a lot of memories, seeing... More
