We travelled from Weld Jetty to Butterworth and back and found the experience something to remember. The trip from penang to Butterworth was free however the return trip was 1.20RM. Once in Butterworth head to the bus Kapital and jump on a bus to the mega Store for some shopping. The view was great as the ferry travels fairly slowly,... More

The ferry takes you to the mainland and offers a good view of the island. It's a combo people and cars boat, with plenty of seats that offer wide views. It's also a great way to "people-watch" as you see all types from students to tourists. From Georgetown, the ferry arrives at another bus station. A great way to escape... More

The Ferry goes between Penang and Butterworth and leaves from Weld Quay.To get there you can take the bus numbered 101 which goes from Georgetown or Batu Ferringhi and drops you off outside the entrance to the Quay. The service is free from Penang to Butterworth but costs RM1.20 on the return journey. It is a very cheap price for the trip... Very interesting to see ferry that can carry both passengers and cars. We climbed up the upper deck to have a nicer view. It was very windy and cool. My 2 years old son was very excited. Really enjoy the ride. More

Very common transport between Island and mainland. the fastest way to move between Georgetown and Butterworth. The ferry contains 2 parts, one is vehicle placement, another one is seats for passenger. For passenger fees is cheap(70 sen in Jun 2011, one way),run by Penang Port Sdn Bhd. All ferries name after Malaysia Islands, such as Pulau Rawa (actually located at... More

If you, like me, hate the concept of being ensconced for days in a smelly, vibrating and unsteady metal container ( a cruise ship) then you'll enjoy this trip across from the mainland to the island of Penang because you're out in the fresh air and can see where you're going. More
