Plan in advance if you want to go to this attraction - it's not always open. Great fly fishing for the kids, family days often held. But also great for a couple to wander through, enjoy the bush, and watch the fish.

Very very interesting visit. We probably went because it was free which is a shame as it was so interesting.
We visited the Trout centre on our way South. It’s a really good place to take a break on a big trip. There is a small museum, a fantastic aquarium with native fish and eels and the opportunity to see trout up close. The walkways are through bush full of birdlife (we heard Tui) and the staff are very friendly.
Visitors to the Centre will learn how trout came to New Zealand and why trout fishing is such a big business in New Zealand. There is an aquarium inside and hatchery outside. The centre has special kids' programs. Our guide was a very informed gentleman and his enthusiasm was genuine
We were given a fairly comprehensive view of what the purpose of the centre was, and what they did. The little museum was interesting, and the art being exhibited was a nice added extra. The walk through the grounds is very pleasant, and particularly lovely along the banks of the Tongariro river.

what a great place to relax and unwind with the children. the place has undertaken a facelift as some have told me. the kids and i enjoyed a lovely day feeding the fish and all the while the visit was free. great place to enjoy with friends and family.
We came down here for a look, we really enjoyed it. Its presented very well, all done up very nice. Lots of infomation to read, and good to see some nice big trout up close and to feed them.
A brand new facility, featuring a priceless collections of rods and reels, books and other memorabilia. The new aquarium features only native fish in typical settings. Set in native bush, walk through the bush along the bubbling Tongaririo River. A good place to take the grandchildren or your own, take a picnic, feed the fish in the children's pool, lie...
