Brilliant time. Stayed four nights in the Lodge (Beanaskill Lodge) Doutsje and Willem did everything to make our stay memorable, relaxing and enjoyable. They suceeded. We (family of four with two sons 9 & 8 years. Our 9 years old is quadrapligic) all cycled there along the Greenway from Westport. I drove to Achill Island, rode back to Westport and... More

This is your own little bit of heaven. Beautiful scenery, good food and excellent hosts. Spacious accommodation and very private. Luxurious bed, it was the best nights sleep we had in years, the silence was golden. The garden even in the midst of winter was a delight. Look forward to a return visit.

If you like gardens or gardening, this place will really impress you. The years of creativity, nurturing and labour that have carved-out such a special sanctuary within such an unfriendly landscape (garden-wise) are clear to see, and will awe-inspire anyone who has even trifled with the notion of being a gardener. This place is a tribute to its current owners,... More

My mother brought my daughter and I to Achill Secret Garden on our recent trip to Ireland. I can truly say it was purely delightful!! I too have a garden, and have been to many gardens but this is rare gem! I found the tour of the garden rooms to be very interesting and informative and it felt so peaceful... More

I recently spent a weekend on Achill with a friend and when heading for home we saw a sign for Achill Secret Garden - both keen gardeners this seemed worth checking out. Oh wow!!! Such a majestic array and display of all kinds of plant life including many I had never seen before. I especially liked the way the garden... More

I visited Achill's Secret Garden on a recent trip to Achill and was enchanted. From the moment we were given the well laid out guide to the garden I knew I was in for something special. As we moved through the 'rooms' each one revealed a new delight. And then to end it all in the old boathouse looking out... More

We went to Achill in search of rest, ideally by the water. We knew we had found something special when we saw photos of the library room with its beautiful bed looking out on to water. From the minute we arrived to the moment we left, Doutsje made us feel so welcome. The bedroom was just as seen in the... More

If you appreciate gardening, art, conservation, dedication, labours of love or simply human endeavour you will leave heartened from a visit to this very special little oasis at the start/end of the spectacular Atlantic Drive that hugs Achill's southern coastline. Don't be put off by the seemingly steep entrance fee (€7-8 for adults)... by the end of your visit you'll... More
