The shrine complex is enormous and such a beautiful and peaceful place. We were able to touch the crypt of St. Pio that contains his remains. We also did the Station of the Cross in the area devoted for it that includes climbing up more than 100 steps but with a breathtaking view of the whole Shrine and surrounding areas.

If you are staying in the centre of town, take a bus to get to the shrine. Be prepared for a lot of people, and waiting. There is a long line up to see the casket of St. Pio. Would make the trip if you enjoy this kind of thing!

St.Pio is in an enclosed silver casket not visual as before which we we'rnt made aware of this most dissapointing, all information in the church was in italian so we could get no information on St.pio or directions for lifts. It was poosible to touch the casket if you were above average height with long arms.
