Thiese caves require a certain amount of energy to reach. Our guide said there were 160 steps up into the entrance. The effort was worth it and we certainly saw our fill of wonderful formations. Not quite as stunning as the Waitomo Caves but that was mainly due to the boat ride and glowworms in the latter. We bought a... More

Great cave formations, able to get up real close and take some great photos, as we were unable to take photos in the glow worm caves. Our guide in the Glow Worm Caves was excellent and even gave us a song, well worth a visit. More

The Aranui Cave is, in my opinion, the prettiest of the main caves at Waitomo. There is hardly a place on the roof of the cave where there isn’t limestone decoration. We did this tour in a 3-cave combo – Waitomo Glow-worm Cave, Aranui Cave and Ruakuri Cave. We had to drive ourselves from Waitomo Village to the cave carpark... More

This cave is disappointing. This cave tour is conducted thru Waitomo Cave tour,. which is the name if the actual tour company. There are many other Waitomo glowworm cave tour companies in the Waitomo area. But the name confuses people to think this is THE ONLY glowworm cave tour available. Go on the Ruakuri cave instead. The Aranui did not... More

make sure to take a good camera and something warm to wear,as under ground can be a lil on the cold side. The cave visit and tour was great and if you have a guide that has a wealth of information of the area and cave it makes great listening. We loved the history of the area and how much... More

The Aranui Cave is about a 5-minute drive from the Waitomo Glowworm Cave. We came here immediately after touring the Glowworm Cave. If you were the first to arrive, looking for the meeting point may be a bit of a problem. There is no ticket office here. We went to a gazebo and saw a small sign nearby informing visitors... More

We loved our visit to Aranui Cave. Pam, our guide was very approachable and friendly. Great limestone formations in a more natural setting than the bigger commercial caves. I can recommend a visit. More

Went to the second of the big caves (Aranui) in the morning, had to get a reservation the day before. This cave was far superior to Waitomo, quite a lot of different types of formations and a much larger cave overall but no glowworms because the cave is dry. Went on the first walk so we could see the cave... More
