One-day trip from Merida, leaving early in the morning from Merida and arrived there in less than an hour. Instead of going during the weekend I decided to go on monday, which was a good idea since I could enjoy a peaceful day with very few tourists around. From Merida you can take a minivan service "collectivos" which is quite... More

This is a truly beautiful small town. It´s considered one of Mexico´s "magical" towns. It has both the colonial architecture as well as mayan ruins inside the city. A very worthwhile visit. More

We visited Izamal on our way to Merida, Yucatán. It is called the golden town because all the houses are painted golden yellow in honor of the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1993. There is a statue of the Pope built with all the keys the local population gathered for its construction. A beautiful town, with a Convent... More

The convent during the day is lovely. There was a video show at night we went to which was supposed to have an english translation available, and the man taking tickets did not tell us the translator was broken. Beware of this or you'll be out $7 U.S. More

Izamal is a jewel of a colonial town with most buildings an egg yolk yellow including the Franciscan Convent and church with its beautiful atrium. Learn abour Friar Diego de Landa and the reason the city and its people are so devoted to the blessed Mother. ( The convent has excellent bathroom facilities but you pay a nominal fee to... More

The Tourist Police guide does not charge much but knows a lot about the church and pyramids, He spoke english and German. Big court yard and there a few Mayan things left from when the church destroyed the pyramid to build the church More

We loved the convent and chapel which was full of locals walking around enjoying this 500 year old, lovely building. It was Day of the Dead and we went to the chapel and gave a written message which was read as a blessing by a young priest during the next Mass. Lovely convent and church. More
