This massive formation is one of the iconic images of Yosemite. It is very impressive to see it close up, especially when ringed with low cloud and mist.

A short walk to the base and you look up at the largest rock you every saw. It is accessible and that is unusual for such a grant feature of the park. Do the loop and see many of the key features the park has to offer. We saw this monument when it was enclosed in a cloud and then...

The beauty and grandeur of El Capitan is staggering. It's hard to get perspective on the size and height of this monolith. Our guide pointed out a tree on a ledge that is 80 feet tall and it looks like a matchstick. Apparently it averages 2 days to climb El Capitan, however the record is just over 2 hours!
You come to Yosemite for vistas like this. The overwhelming grandeur of Mother Nature's architecture. Do work this location into your travel plans.
El Capitan is one of the iconic landmarks at the park. I had fun creating a painting of it while visiting the area. A perfect model for artists to paint or draw.
El Capitan is recognized the world over. Even if you don't climb rock faces, the shear size and the vertical face of El Capitan is stunning. And to imagine people climbing it is amazing.
When planning out my trip to Yosemite, I had read that some people like to sit out in the El Capitan Meadow and watch for climbers climbing the 7,569 foot vertical rock formation. So I planned a quick 30 minute stop for us to check it out on our last day in the valley as we headed towards Tuolumne Meadows....

on the face of El Captain you see excellent rock climbing on a 3000 ft high vertical drop. Great to take pictures (don't forget your zoom lens)
We played in the meadow across from El Capitan and found formations in the rocks.....heart, arm, etc. 1 and 3 year old boys enjoyed running into the woods looking for tracks. The size of the rock was stunning.
You can't miss it ... it commands the valley. Great photo-op ... check out horsetail falls, too ... paved walkways and wide car pull-offs. You can walk a paved path from one end of the face front to the other. Bring your binoculars to watch the climbers
