Clearly, anyone who likes this beach has probably never seen one before. I live right near St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach in FL so I know what a beach is. I guess it's cool since the buildings are literally right on the beach.

Yes, it's crowded, yes it's touristy, yes there are homeless people around. But spending time on Waikiki Beach is an essential part of the Oahu experience, I think. Everyone should experience it once. Great for people-watching, baking in the sun, paddle-boarding or surfing, or just floating on the gentle waves. We were staying at a hotel on the beach, but...

Waikiki Beach has it all, sun, surf, snorkeling, sand and right across the street from shops, hotels, restaurants and an occasional homeless person. I'm here at least once a week, water is 78 degrees, sandy bottom in lots of places. Once a month for a few days there are box jellyfish so stay out of the water, lots don't, lots...

Love Waikiki Beach, only drawback this year was the construction on the beach, didn't affect us too much but could not get to a few places by walking on beach so was a little inconvenient but is going to be much better when finished.

The beach is gorgeous, finding parking is a nightmare, the beach itself is constantly crowded. and the sea bottom is mostly rock so watch your feet when you're more than a few feet into the water.

This beach is beautiful! It is crowded, definitely a city beach, however, the water is beautiful and you really get a sense of aloha here. The beach is always crowded from sunrise to sunset with surfers, paddle-boarders, swimmers, sunbathers, etc. Not to be missed on any visit to Honolulu.

Iconic Waikiki Beach still beautiful, but crowded. Not as safe to walk on the beach at night as it once was a couple of decades ago. But still beautiful and clean.

Waikiki has always been "that touristy place"...but I rather enjoy staying in Waikiki for the simple fact that I feel like I'm on vacation. NOT the relaxing no bustle vacation of the North Shore, but I can wander to any eatery, or shopping center or the hotel pool or even to the beach with ease. I can do it all...

Obviously the best surfing, judging by the amount of surfing pros that were attending a competition .

Waikiki is a lovely beach - not much sand but that's hardly heartbreaking. The thing I find the most annoying here are the amount of people shouting at you and selling you things - sailing on a catamaran, lounge chairs, time shares when you just want a quiet stroll along the beach...
