Look up the McNay online & you'll see many family-friendly activity days. We went on one such afternoon...crafts, activities, tours. This is a beautiful museum, exquisite grounds. The art kept the older ones entertained, the crafts & activities kept the younger ones happy. And it was all free on this special family day!! Bring your cameras...breathtaking photo ops on the... This wonderful museum is housed on the estate of Marion Koogler McNay. The house and grounds are part of the reason to visit, but the artwork collection is fabulous. It is a must see in San Antonio.

It was not crowded. Most everyone was super friendly...from the desk greeter, woman in the gift store...to the guards. It wasn't too crowded. The gardens are lovely, and you can let your kids get a break out there! I enjoyed the pieces. I would both return and send others there.

My reason for going to the McNay was my friend wanted to see the museum and wanted to share the experience. I am the type who avoided art appreciation in college but I enjoy new adventures. We were delighted with the entire collection. The emphasis is art from the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection has a surprising number of the... More

Imagine yourself living in this big house and collecting art as Mrs. McNay did. There is a wing housing theater costume design and a library. Very well maintained house and grounds.

If you like art galleries, put this on your "required" list. Beautiful home, setting, gardens, statues, and the art! Picasso, Gaugin, Manet, Chagall, O'Keeffe, Medieval, Native American. Plan to spend 2-3 hours, and there is no cafe there, but according to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff , there are good eating establishments nearby. It required a quick $20 cab... More

Nothing stood out at this museum except for the Spanish style colonial structure. Security staff appearance was sloppy and they seemed complacent and unprofessional.

Main part of the museum was built as a Spanish style colonial house in the 1920s as residence and eventually became a museum to house the collection left by the owner. .There is now also a large modern extension and the whole building is very interesting and sits in attractive grounds. The collection is very strong in 19th to mid... More

The McNay is a beautiful home that has expanded over the years to accomodate a growing collection of artwork. Styles included impressionism, post impressionism, modernism, american modernism, sculpture, theater arts (costume), medieval and renaissance, and southwest art. At the time of my visit, the changing exhibition was Real/Surreal - Selections from the Whitney Museum of American Art. Noted names I... More
