There is nothing like it then Bear Lake....amazing place but suggest to go when its late summer so the ice and snow are all melted....we slipped a few times but didn't fall thank god. Be careful if ice packed but beautiful for sure and a must see while in Estes!

It's too damn crowded, everybody knows this is about as beautiful as it gets. Don't go, leave some parking spaces for the rest of us.

The drive to the lake is pretty, the views from around the lake are lovely; it is a perfect short hike if you have to watch your time and can't spend a day or more at the park. I was there in Oct. but it can be BUSY in summer - take the tram. Also, while a short walk, there... More

Go here and find out. Yea it is really pretty and the NPS does a great job and managing how many people go here, but seriously I go to places in the outdoors to get away from people. Dont expect that here. And because CO is #1 in physical fitness, dont expect to get away from people by hiking a... More

Bear Lake was extremely snow covered and still completely iced over when visited. While it is beautiful, there's not much to do/explore unless you're a serious snowshoe-r! There were several people trekking across the lake, but we did not realize how much snow/ice would still be on the ground at the end of March. Would recommend late spring or summer... More

We enjoyed the leisurely drive through the park to get to the lake and walked on the frozen lake with ease. It would have been easier to navigate the trails with more trail markers and hiking boots/snow shoes are highly recommended to provide better traction on the snow-covered trails.

Nice easy trails for beginner snowshoeing. The Trails around the lake are easy with limited incline. If there is snow on the ground you will need snowshoes ot crampons.

It's quiet, scenic, and has several trails around it. So beautiful. One of the best places to take pictures in and around RMNational Park.

My husband and I went on a ranger-led snowshoe walk at Bear Lake. The trails were maintained and the view of Long's Peak is incredible. We didn't see any wildlife (which is kind of a bummer) but it was winter at a high altitude. It's a nice, quiet spot to take a snowshoe walk! ourpinonthemap.blogspot.com

This was my 2nd visit to the area March 2012 and Dec 2011. Love that it usually starts out with very little snow and then gets snowier as you go. Also very nice that you can make the hike as long or short as you want. Fun to walk around the whole lake with all the big rocks.
