Bear Lake was extremely snow covered and still completely iced over when visited. While it is beautiful, there's not much to do/explore unless you're a serious snowshoe-r! There were several people trekking across the lake, but we did not realize how much snow/ice would still be on the ground at the end of March. Would recommend late spring or summer... More

We enjoyed the leisurely drive through the park to get to the lake and walked on the frozen lake with ease. It would have been easier to navigate the trails with more trail markers and hiking boots/snow shoes are highly recommended to provide better traction on the snow-covered trails.

Nice easy trails for beginner snowshoeing. The Trails around the lake are easy with limited incline. If there is snow on the ground you will need snowshoes ot crampons.

It's quiet, scenic, and has several trails around it. So beautiful. One of the best places to take pictures in and around RMNational Park.

My husband and I went on a ranger-led snowshoe walk at Bear Lake. The trails were maintained and the view of Long's Peak is incredible. This was my 2nd visit to the area March 2012 and Dec 2011. Love that it usually starts out with very little snow and then gets snowier as you go. Also very nice that you can make the hike as long or short as you want. Fun to walk around the whole lake with all the big rocks.
