I live only a half mile away and visit often. Come in from south entrance and enjoy. Any time of year is marvelous. Be sure to stop at Stout Grove. Boy Scout and Mill Creek are great trails too. Take trail straight to creek instead of the loop if you have kids and explore a hollow downed Redwood. Look out... More

Our family has taken this every time we've ever been through the area. It takes you right through the redwoods where you almost feel as though you'll be scraping the paint off of your vehicle. We've traveled it in both directions, mainly because everyone clamors to see the area one more time before we head home. Stout Grove is a... More

This amazing scenic drive offers incredible views of old growth redwoods. There are a few sections of unpaved "4x4" driving, where you wind between huge trees. An excellent way to get out and appreciate/marvel at the redwoods! More

It leads you (in a round about way) into Stout Grove, which is one of the most beautiful groves in the park More

Its one of the best places to experience the Redwoods. Its not too busy (especially in January) and its as if you've gone back in time. Aside from the towering redwoods, the utter silence is my favorite part. Its a little tricky on the narrow roads, so take it slow and be sure to stop at the Boy Scout trail. More

The entrance from the south was fun. This is the way to drive through the redwood, on an old dirt road away from the highway. Stop often to listen to the forest, take pictures, take short walks (Stout Grove was very easy) and marvel at the trees. It comes back to the highway at the Smith River where there's a... More

Embarking on Howland Hill Road from either end belies the jewel that lies within. The narrowness, the windyness, the rural nature of the roadbed all contribute to the unique experience of this 10-mile scenic drive that bisects the Jedediah Smith State Park. For those who are short on time or have physical limitations, this road provides spectacular views of old-growth... More

This little one lane dirt road was a great adventure. Beautiful views the entire drive. Despite the narrow road it was a no stress drive. The few times we met cars coming from the other direction there was plenty of space for one of us to pull over. We did the entire drive to Stout Grove and then on to... More

Good: Quiet, natural, ancient ambience of redwoods and streams Bad: Hard to readjust to stillness of forest coming from city! More
