The cave was a pleasant surprise as we were not sure what to expect. Our guide did the tour in English and provided a good commentary on the cave, its formations and the cave ‘paintings’. The ‘paintings’ are more basic than those I have seen in France but that is because these are apparently older. None the less we found... More

Not a cave person but intrigued by paintings from 10 - 15 thousand years ago. Don't miss this, this cave is like a cathedral in places and an imposing experience. Well worth the visit. The guide even made the effort of making the English translation although I was the only English speaker! Really nice and friendly tour.

There are three reasons to put the Pileta caves on your list of Ronda attractions. Firstly, the caves themselves have unusually attractive formations and colours. Secondly, there is a welcome absence of the kind of commercialism that tends to ruin most cave tours - there is no electric lighting in the caves (you are provided with a lantern) and tours... More

I fully agree with GulabJammun's comments: excellent tour with a good English language guide; caves are made special by the lack of any lighting; you must have shoes with a good grip, because the floor is slippery at times. I would add that some of the paintings are indeed amazing; that the guide (a member of the family who discovered... More

What a wonderful find in the mountains S of Ronda near the villages of Montejaque and Benaojan. These caves are unspoilt and un-commercialised. Tours are run by the family that rediscovered them in the 1920's and contain some amazing paintings dating from Palaeolithic times and beyond as well as all the usual stalactites etc.. Good footwear is a help when... More

The cave (Cueva de la Pileta – "Cave of the Pool") is located a few kilometers to the southwest and above the town of Benaojan, Spain, a short distance from Ronda. The cave is signposted leaving Benaojan, so you should not get lost. Off the road, you will find a parking lot from where you will hike about 150 meters... More

Excellent english language tour of the caves with very good explanations of key geographical features the paintings. The caves are made even more special and well preserved by the lack of electric lighting and development. Make sure you wear shoes with a good grip and if you can take some time to explore the hills in which the caves are... More

These caves are awesome. They cover such a large area, and you can only view a fraction of what actually exists there. The wall paintings seem smaller and less significant than photos show, but the story of their origin is fascinating. Each group of 4 has a lamp, but I found my own torch invaluable to see where I was... More

Well worth the climb to the front entrance. We were fortunate to only be the four of us guided inside this well conserved cave, 20,000 years old, with really nice rupeste paintings. The fee was 8 euros for a 90 minutes tour. I do recommend the visit, make sure you have good shoes, some areas are slippery. Only small kerosene lamps... More

A nice 2 hour excursion ... well worth the visit. They don't let you take any photos inside which although understandable, would have been nice.
