The exhibits were not extensive or containing authentic artifacts. Lots of re-creations and impresspsionistic sculptures, but the audio narration via iPods in your native language made the history come to life. Also the timed audio experience made for easy travel without tripping over other visitors. More

Excellent food, reasonable prices - give this place a try as an alternative to going out in Reykjavik. And stay in the area for the northern lights! More

The shop alone is worth visiting, for it's clever architecture. There was a good selection of Icelandic goods in the shop, a very pleasant shopping experience. We did not have time to eat in the restaurant, but I've heard it's very good. More

You should make the effort to visit this interesting museum. Audio guides take you around the two halves of the displays (30 mnutes each) The eating area upstairs was way better than we expected to find there and the quality of food was amazing. More

The dining room at the Settlement Museum was a comfortable place in a storm; we had a relaxed and delicious meal while the wind howled and the rain pelted. One of the specials on offer was 'horse' steak, surprising to see this on a menu though we had read that Icelanders do eat horse. We opted for a vegetarian meal,... More

I stopped here for an afternoon and really enjoyed it. The lunch buffet in the cafe was excellent, as was the massive piece of chocolate cake and cappuccino I had for dessert. The museum itself is divided up into two exhibits which come with an audio guide lasting about half an hour each. So it will take you about an... More

this place is great both for kids and adults. They have great puppets made of wood that explained the story of the first settlements and of the icelandic sagas. The tour is done with an ipod that tells the story in different languages. They also have a supercool gift shop and a very good restaurant with delicious typical food and... More

If you don't know much about how Iceland became settled or their sagas then this a great stop to get some context as you travel north out of Reykjavik. If you can only do one tour I'd do the settlement. But try both: they aren't long and you can leave if you don't prefer one. I was a little antsy... More

This was a very annoying waste of time. We had already been to the Settlement Centre in Reykjavik, which is worlds ahead of this place. The part about Egils Saga is understandably interesting to those who live in the area, but otherwise simply boring and gory. The boring part is because you must use their tapes and can't skip ahead,... More
