There are many ways to hike around the area and the views are first rate. The last section of Flat top was only for snow/ice climbers in May 2012 but the earile parts of flat top were well worth the walk for the views.

It is a great hike but you definitely need some good shoes and water and it can be windy in some spots so I recommend a wind breaker

I went in the summer and it was packed. I didn't even bother going to the top. Found a frisbee in a gulley and played with that instead, if I remember correctly.
