Love it. Not for beginners. If you've never hiked it, it's a good idea tos study the trail map before you go up. Better yet, take a picture of it with your camera so you have a "trail map" to consult and make sure you're on track. Getting up to the real Mt Marathon behind race point is even tougher,... More

How people race up that mountain, I'll never know as the hike somewhat challenging. A lot of thick brush at the bottom of the mountain and a very steep climb to the top, but the view is awesome.

It was neat hearing about the race up the mountain every 4th of July and how the mountain got its name.

We decided to take the back trail (jeep trail) instead of the race route, because we were more interested in a nice hike instead of a treacherous straight up and down trip. Several people have died on this mountain so don't assume you'll be fine going up the trail by yourself in the rain. It's very steep with cliff areas- you need to go with someone who knows the trail or you can get lost and die!

FUN, FUN, FUN!! It burns all the way up but the views are worth it. The scree surfin down is also super fun!! Not for the light of heart or the weak of body. This is NOT a beginner hike.

Great way to get out and experience Seward from a local perspective. Met a hiking club on the trail. 7 women ages 60-84! They hike every Tuesday. Wonderful and inspiring.
