Its is truly 'Bourbon street' for locals. Great music.

We went here on a Monday night. It was a great change of pace after Bourbon Street. The music and laid back atmosphere was fantastic. We went during the day before hand to get a feel for it. There was not much going on. I would definitely recommend going at night; however, a friend who went to school there said...

Prior to heading down, I read on some forums that Frenchman Street is a good place for a tourist to see some live music as there are a few solid bars and most don't charge a cover. Sold. Headed over here 2 of the nights I was in town. Aside from the Maison kicking people out around 9 between bands...

A short walk from the main activities on Bourbon Street, we found a wonderful little hole in the wall (Cafe Negril) with an incredible live blues band for the first set, followed by a fun reggae band and a friendly atmosphere. Live jazz, reggae and blues music was up and down the street and more intimate settings than on Bourbon...

If you want to get away from the prostitutes and stripping clubs and trashy bars, come to Frenchman Street. There you will hear authentic jazz and blues music...not Top 40 cover bands like you hear on Bourbon. Frenchman Street doesn't have the neon lights. It is beautiful, with beautiful music and delicious food.

This seems to be where the locals go, it is full of great jazz music and lots of talented folks...this was my favorite street to listen to music!

Up and down for 3 blocks or so there are several music venues, very lively, very fun, cool and happy atmosphere. You can carry your drink with you down the street, which feels unusual but certainly is convenient! Heard some great music, really...

This street is underrated but it's very much worth a visit - especially at night. It's lined with cafes, music bars, restaurants and shops, many of which are open very late at night. Make sure you visit The Spotted Cat, a music bar at the beginning of Frenchman street. It's very lively here and less rowdy and dirty than Bourbon...
