Was expecting a great way to view the city but this isn't it. It doesn't go to the end and they dump you off on Lake Charles street to catch a ride back to Bourbon street. Really not much of a view either. No AC

We stayed in a hotel on St Charles in the Garden District and the trolley line was right at the door. The cars on this line are refurbished and have lots of wood and character. Unlike the other streetcar lines which have newer cars, these have windows that can open and the breeze is so wonderful on a warm day....

Costing only a few dollars for a day ticket it is a nice and inexpensive way to get around the main parts of town. They can get very crowded at times but if you have the time wait for the next one.

Buy a pass and ride the streetcar. No streetcar named Desire any more, but there are others. They move at a leisurely pace, as there are stops at each corner.
As two seniors, we enjoyed a short trip on the streetcar. $ 0.40 per passenger for a one way trip. The view going down St. Charles street was lovely.
I had a lovely time people watching and city watching on the streetcar. Be aware though that as of May 2013 they are working on the line and so a bus takes you part of the way.
I'd suggest making this a day trip and getting off at the huge park with the zoo and also the village toward the...

Wonderful, convenient and inexpensive way to travel around Nola. I only wish we had discovered this ease of travel on day one. Brought you back to the old days.
The St. Charles line can be rather crowded but it's still a great way to get from uptown in the Garden/University districts to the French Quarter. Just make sure to have correct change in hand.
We loved the streetcars and were on and off the whole week in Nola. They connect with buses too, no need to have a car. What I liked was that the drivers were very friendly and helpful, eager to make sure you knew where to get off and connect. We visit San Francisco often and ride the buses and trolleys...
