Years ago, my wife and I came across a list of the top 25 museums in the USA. We have now visited 23, with two on the schedule. The American Museum of Visionary Art is a wonderful place, reserved only for the work of artists who have not received formal training in art. One of our favorite areas is the... More

This is a really fun, quircky museum that is a welcome departure from some of the stuffier "traditional" museums. Much of the art is produced by self-taught artists using all sorts of mediums. Very fun place to spend a few hours. More

Quite different from other art museums. Every space has something different. Enjoyed the biographies of the artists. The gift shop was a pleasant adventure too as I bought some unique jewelry. More

The American Visionary Art Museum is a must see experience! The gift shop is awesome, with unusual merchandise and art from all over the world. Check out the July 4th Pet Parade and the Kinetic Sculpture Race too! More

This is one of the most unique museums I've been to! It was so interesting to see exhibits by artists who aren't as well known and/or technically trained. I saw a range of art, from just gorgeous to thought-provoking pieces. Also, they have the best museum gift shop I'd ever been to! If you're in Baltimore, go visit! More

We walked here from our hotel at the Inner Harbor and the whole time I had to listen to my 11 & 13 y/o sons complain that we were going to "an art museum on VACATION!" When they saw the funky exterior they softened up a bit. The gift shop is right next to the entrance and that also helped... More

The unique exterior tells only a part of the story. The museum has a well-detailed scale model of the Lusitania- constructed with toothpicks and glue! And that gives one an indication of the types of exhibits offered here. Regrettably, we did not spend enough time to peruse the entire museum but we did cover enough of it to enjoy what... More

Loved this museum and it would be a great place to bring children ten years and up for inspiration. As an adult, I also loved it and spent 3 hours here. They also have a wonderful gift shop. The thing I liked most is that it inspires you to look around you and use everyday items as art. Very green... More

Inspiring, thought provoking, quirky museum. Gift shop is great for fun gifts. I love reading the little bios next to each piece. Very cool place...not your typical run of the mill museum. More
