Crossed this bridge on a trip into Washington from Oregon. It is truly the most amazing bridge I have crossed excepting perhaps the Golden Gate. On the Oregon side, the bridge soars high above the Columbia and then drops to a long stretch barely above the river level. The final leg is a small bridge into the Washington side. Took... More

All along the Oregon Coast reside many elegant, beautiful. art-deco style bridges. This erector set mega bridge looks like one of those tooth pick bridge projects from high school engineering class painted bright green. It is looks rather fragile to me. I see nothing about this bridge to like visually.

Very neat exsperience to see everything from very high up and then feel like you are right on top of the water on the washington side. Very narrow so by the end of the long over four mile crossing im always ready to be back on the ground though. No crossing fee so if you are in the area cross... More

At the first sight is ugly and disproportional. But when you start to cross it you realize that the views are really beautiful and the construction starts to make sense. It's really long and unique.

Very long bridge with some of the most spectacular views of the Columbia River around. You need to travel the bridge both ways so you can get a view of the Washington shore and Astoria on the return. They were working on the bridge when we were there so we had a wait to go and come back but it... More

First view of the bridge from Dismal Nitch over on the WA side - great photos with lots of scenic picture options. Impressive to drive across and learn about this engineering feat.

We had visited Astoria several times, always arriving from the east on the Oregon side of the Columbia. It dominated the city landscape so I decided that on our next visit, we would cross over from the Washington side. This bridge is over 4 miles long and it is truly a unique experience. In fact, it feels like two bridges... More

As we were going over the bridge I looked up the history of the bridge and was amazed to learn that it is the longest truss bridge in the US, also that it had been closed in October 2012 due to a big wind storm. We also learned that it is going into a 5 year 50 mil renovation project.

This is a most impressive bridge and seeing it felt compelled to travel over it despite having no reason to do so. It is a little scary because it is quite narrow but rises very quickly to quite a height. Great view of the Columbia and the pacific right near where Lewis and Clark finished. Best of all its free!... More
