Stopped at the Museum and Visitor Center befor driving through the battlefields. This is an A+ museum! Has lots of artifacts and information!
The still new visitor's center is a much bigger place to see about the battle. A couple of things I was not happy about; first, the place is bigger, but there seems to be less stuff on display. I am ok with paying the fee, which you did not do at first. The items on display are nice and well... More
A non-US citizen I am still learning about the Civil War. The Visitor center is a good way of getting to know this more in depth. The 20 min movie was good and informative. The Cyclorama seemed dated and off-target in comparison. We ended up going after 10 min and went to the museum instead. The museum has many nice exhibits... More
Going to Rememberance Day in Gettysburg is a remarkable experience. With all the festivities, parades, shopping, eating, enjoying history, ceremonies, dedications, so much. This year we added the new visitor center. It is absolutely a wonderful experience. Very easy to read, look and reflect. Cyclorama was good, although I remember the old one, and I think that old building was... More
It's a lot larger than the old center, but does not really have that much in it to apperciate. The newer building and mgt. has decided to tell the whole story of the civil war, but that detracts from the main purpose of being there; the battle of Gettysburg. Don't get me wrong, they do go into it about two... More
They have restored the cyclorama painting. The exhibit starts with a short film and they opens up to the painting. Don't miss this. There is also a gift shop that sells the auto tour and you can get tickets to visit the Eisenhower farm all great things to do.
This is an extraordinary experience and all Americans should visit Gettysburg. The movie is emotional, but nothing is as special as the Cyclorama. If you have never seen it since it was moved to its new "home" and after its restoration, make another trip.
Just recently revisited Gettysburg PA. This is the first visit since the Visitors Center was built. What a wonderful idea. Everyone was very helpful, and since we arrived later in the day and wanted to do the full package the young lady actually marked my ticket so I was able to revisit the next day and see the museum. We... More
Very lovely and new visitor center where one can find out all the activities for the Park. A must see is the film with the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama, "A New Birth of Freedom" (this is a painted mural of the scenes of the battle that have been restored) this building also contains a book and museum store, food service, licensed... This is my 12th trip to the Center and it never gets old. Morgan Freeman's narration of the movie is still the best (except maybe WWII Museum in New Orleans--3D). Cyclorama is still fun and the artifacts in the museum are still interesting. The food at the cafeteria is lousy and they have no hardtack, but the gift shop is... More
