This museum was one of my favorite places to visit, even as a boy. It was a cool, inviting refuge from the heat and noise of the city. I came to know and love the art there: so much Renaissance through 19th century; and presented as it may have been seen when accommodated in the homes of the wealthy and... More

They did a lovely luncheon in their private room. Each guest was served a plate with grilled herb chicken, poached salmon, and assorted salads. Along with ice cream or fruit, each table got a platter of freshly baked cookies and macarons. Highly recommended.

Beautiful museum with friendly staff. One of the nicer art museums that I have visited. It was almost empty on a sunny Sunday morning and that meant we had the galleries to ourselves. Not to be crass but the big inventory sale in the gift shop was greatly appreciated.

Big museum. Lots to see. I would recommend to go inside from the back side. First go down to the waterworks. I loved the way rooms are being recreated.

I actually only visited the main building of the museum, but maybe that's for the best because it was focused on renaissance to modern art (no ancient art). The art collection is very impressive and you can spend hours touring the halls of the museum. Definitely recommend for fans of both impressionism and realism, European and American art. Two notes:... More

The best art gallery I've ever been to. Especially for the 19th and 20th Century European stuff. You could spend days on end in here!

A huge art museum with excellent collections. We spent nearly 5 hours there today including lunch in the cafeteria, shuttle bus to and tour of the Rodin Museum. I enjoyed the American and European 19th century collections. I sped through the modern art(?), early European (Christian) and Asian collections. The Rodin museum was nice and small.

I found four things to explore. First the external edifice is beautifully landscaped with fountains, pools and statutes. You get an impressive view of downtown Philadelphia where "Rocky" stood. Inside, I found impressionist paintings, medieval military armor and sections of buildings from Asia. On Wednesday after 5 PM, the cost is a simple donation. What a gem!

The museum's collection of the European art 1850-1900 is an absolute must. It features numerous paintings by Edouard Manet, Claude Monet (with quite a few real masterpieces), Paul Cézanne, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, Rousseau and others. The van Gogh's Wheat Field in the Rain is amazing. The works of Edvard Munch and Gustave Klimt shouldn't be missed. The beautiful paintings of... More
